Even though retinol is considered the "gold standard" in skincare, my skin gets irritated from retinol. So I prefer to use alternative ingredients, like bakuchiol. Though at 41 I only have a few fine lines, I use this serum to slow down further aging. I've had no irritation with this serum. I'm unsure about the "firming" effect, but again I'm using it as a preventative step.
