Review: Pyunkang Yul Acne Line

It's the newest release from skincare giant Pyunkang Yul! They've combined over 40 years of experience in treating skincare ailments and knowledge of oriental medicine to create a line just for acne fighters. So, to put it to the test, we've recruited the help of six StyleKorean Beauty Editors to try and review these products! Let's see what they have to say!

Acne Facial Cleanser

Volume: 120ml

Effects:

- Prevents excess sebum production

- Removes waste products from deep within pores

- Provides anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effect

Mory:

Felt hydrating without the tightness associated with a lot of acne-targeting cleansers.

Cristine:

Pros: Unlike other cleansers, it doesn’t leave the skin feeling tight.

Cons: Could be something wrong with mine but the cap wouldn’t close properly.

Karen:

Pros: Refreshing and hydrating! There’s no tightness after cleansing. Great for people with dry skin. Simple yet elegant packaging.

Cons: Made the mistake of trying to remove makeup using this cleanser. Needed two washes to remove everything but this is understandable as this is not a makeup remover.

Dana:

Doesn’t create a rich lather. Refreshing and surprisingly hydrating! Leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth.

Jennie:

Have used numerous acne-targeting cleansers but most strip the skin of moisture. This one, however, doesn’t.

Acne Toner

Volume: 150ml

Effects:

- Exfoliates and smooths skin texture

- Controls excess sebum production

- Minimizes pores and accelerates skin regeneration

- Provides anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effect

Mory:

Has a faint medicinal scent to it which could potentially bother those who are sensitive to smell.

Compared to other alcohol-based toners, it was pleasant given that there was no acrid scent to it or drying sensation.

Cristine:

Pros: Refreshing and mild. Great for all skin types.

Cons: A little lacking in terms of hydration. Need to move onto the next skincare step as quickly as possible.

Dana:

Less viscous than the essence toner. Would recommend it for those with oily skin.

Acne Dressing Mask Pack

Effects:

- Specialized care for affected spots

- Rapid alleviation of skin troubles

- Intense hydration

- Provides anti-bacterial effect

Mory:

Mask kept sliding down so you need to use it when you’re lying down!

Cristine:

Pros: Hydrating! Leaves skin dewy and translucent.

Anna:

Hydrating, refreshing with a great scent. Easy to use! You can even place the strips on your neck if you want.

Acne Cream

Volume: 50ml

Effects:

- Prevents bacterial penetration

- Controls excess sebum production

- Faciliates skin regeneration

- Provides anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effect

Cristine:

Pros: As an acne targeted cream I wasn't expecting a lot of hydration. However, it was unexpectedly moisturizing without any stickiness. Great for all skin types - especially during the warmer months.

Dana:

Gel-like texture that was a lot more hydrating than expected with no stickiness. Would recommend it for all skin types and seasons.

Jennie:

Light with just the right amount of hydration.

Acne Spot Cream

Volume: 15ml

Effects:

- Provides intensive care to affected spots

- Rapid alleviation of skin troubles

- Minimizes pores

- Provides anti-bacterial effect

Cristine:

Pros: Smooth, easy application. Hydrating enough to be used all over the skin.

Jennie:

Really helped calm down my acne.

Conclusion

Mory:

I got several spots during the week I spent testing the products. But these seemed to disappear in as little as one to two days. I don’t have acne-prone skin so I wasn’t able to see any dramatic changes but the products seem quite gentle and safe to use regularly, for all skin types.

Cristine:

Changes weren’t dramatic but I’ve only been using the products for about a week. So far, I’m happy with them.

Dana:

I’m not prone to break outs so I can’t say whether it’s great for acne or not. But I can say that I enjoyed using it. Seems great for all skin types.

Jennie:

Been using this for about 2 weeks and so far it seems to help soothe my skin. I haven't had any further break outs either which is a major plus for me.
