There is still a myth that people with dark
skin have a natural skin protection and do not need to use sunscreens and any UV
protection. But as many myths this one is totally wrong. Even though dark skin
tone is certainly more resistant to the sun rays, the risk of getting skin burn
or skin cancer are as high.
Little bit of a theory
People with dark skin naturally produce more
melanin, component that helps to protect the skin from UV-rays and other skin
damage. Thus, it will take more time for dark-skinned person to get a sunburn
under the direct sun ray compared to fair-skinned person. But this difference
does not mean that they do not need to apply sunscreen daily. Constant UV and
HEV (Blue rays) exposure can still lead to premature skin aging, dark spots,
and pigmentation, and, of course, skin cancer.
Most of the times skin cancer discovered at
the late stage compared to person with lighter skin
